Say Goodbye to Dead Zones with TP-Link Deco Mesh

The Deco mesh system has three nodes same in design and qualities. You just have to choose one of the three nodes and connect it with the modem via LAN cable. After configuring the node, you can link all other nodes wirelessly.

There are two methods to complete the TP Link Deco setup: one is with the help of the Deco app and other is from the tplinkdeco.net. So let’s start:

TP-Link Deco Mesh Setup (Deco App)

Step 1: Disconnect the Old Router First

If your ISP gave you a modem/router combo, you got to either:

  • Put it in bridge mode (look that up for your specific model), or

  • Turn off Wi-Fi and let the Deco handle everything

If you’re using a plain modem (no Wi-Fi), just unplug it, wait like 10 seconds, and plug it back in when the Deco is ready.

Step 2: Download the Deco App

Just go to the App Store or Google Play, search for “TP-Link Deco.” Download it. No magic here.

Create a TP-Link account if you don’t have one. It’s required. Yes, it’s dumb. Just do it.

Step 3: Plug in your first Deco

Pick your main Deco unit — this is the one that’s gonna connect directly to the modem via Ethernet.

  1. Plug it into power.

  2. Plug it into your modem using the Ethernet cable that came in the box.

  3. Wait for the LED to start pulsing blue. Wait 2 minutes.

Step 4: Open up the app

  • Open the Deco app.

  • It’ll ask what model you have — pick the right one (usually on the bottom label).

  • Follow the prompts.

Now, this is important — sometimes the app gets stuck at “looking for Deco.” If that happens:

  • Force quit the app.

  • Restart your phone’s Wi-Fi.

  • Open the app again.

  • Still nothing? Unplug the Deco, wait 10 sec, plug it back in.

Eventually, it connects. When it does, you’ll pick a name for your network and a password. This will become your new Wi-Fi.

Step 5: Add the other Decos

Once the main one is live:

  1. Place the second unit somewhere mid-house. Not too far.

  2. Plug it in.

  3. App should auto-detect and add it. If not, go to “Add Deco” in the app manually.

Repeat for however many units you’ve got.

Pro tip: Don’t overthink placement. You can move them later. Just don’t toss one behind a fridge and expect magic.

Step 6: Update the firmware

After setup, the app will probably say there’s a firmware update. Do it. It fixes weird bugs and makes stuff faster.

Takes about 5 minutes, the Deco will reboot. Don’t panic if the Wi-Fi drops. It’ll reboot and comes back again.
